He has been
teaching for 19 years, 15 of which have been at Dana Hills. Norm's primary reason for returning to Dana Hills in 1983 was to be a part of the dynamic
Science Department and its field study program. His growth as an educator in and out
of the classroom can be attributed to his involvement with the Baja, Yosemite Institute,
Natural History, Earth Science, and countless other field studies He has taught many
different science subjects from Horticulture, Intro Science, Biology
to Chemistry. He has been a Mentor Teacher for developing Chemistry curriculum
from 1992 to 1994. His favorite Mentor Teacher project has been working with
Bill Cunningham and Mike "Sully" Sullivan in a Summer Science Institute for
elementary school teachers from 1995 to
1997. |

Besides being
a teacher he has been a seasonal firefighter for the California Division of
Forestry, miscellaneous carpentry remodels, cabinet making in San Luis Obispo and a
construction supervisor for the building of medical offices. |
|
One of the
many benefits of teaching at Dana Hills, is being able to swim with colleagues during
lunch to get in shape for diving and surfing (not to mention to get rid of those love
handles.) He is also part of the football
"chain gang" team for home football games. He claims it is still the best
seat in the house for watching the game (visitor sidelines) and he gets to listen to
the opposing coaches and all of the sideline activity. |

Norm is
currently married with three sons: Bryce(8), Tanner(6), and Grant(3). With his
family he enjoys camping, fishing in Baja, water-skiing at "The River,"

with "Body Womping" (Body Surfing.)- |
