Organizations for the Gifted and Talented

 

At DHHS, if you or your child has a question or concern about a particular class he/she is enrolled in, the first person to see is the teacher of that class.  If you have questions or concerns about your child's overall academic program, the first person to see is their Academic Advisor.  They are on  the front line of registration and they do all the student's scheduling throughout their academic life at Dana Hills. If you have a concern about your child's emotional/social needs while at school, Rob Aristo, the school psychologist (roaristo@capousd.org), and Nancy Wilburton, the school counselor (nwilburton@capousd.org) are available to take your questions and work with you to address your child's needs.  If you would like to educate yourself more about gifted education in general, or join an organization devoted to gifted/talented education issues, the list below will serve as a starting point.  CUSD does not endorse the views of any of the authors or advertisers listed below:

March 2 - March 4, 2007--California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Annual Conference at the Santa Clara Convention Center

Associations:

California Association for the Gifted (CAG)--Non-profit organization of parents and educators.  Quarterly publication, annual conference, teacher certification, political lobbying, scholarships, resource articles and publications. (www.cagifted.org)

National Association for the Gifted (NAGC)--Non-profit organization of parents, teachers, educators, community leaders and other professionals.  Quarterly publications, annual conference, scholarships, summer and enrichment program guides, publications and articles. (www.nagc.org)

World Council for Gifted and Talented Education (WCTGC)--focuses world attention on gifted and talented children to ensure the realization of their valuable potential to the benefit of humankind.  Provides exchange of ideas and  initiates and supports research into the nature of giftedness, talents, and creativity and the education of gifted and talented children.  Persuades governments to recognize gifted children as a category for special attention.  Designs activities that bring together gifted and talented children who share these purposes. The Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE)--Provides internet-based education resources for students and teachers in the USA (www.ed.gov/free)

The Educational Advancement Organization (IEA)--A clearinghouse for information about gifted and talent opportunities, including a complete list of organizations and publications related to the gifted and talented student.  An extremely valuable site for both parents and students!  Once inside the "Gifted Resource Center," click on "Additional Resources."
