Homework:                           Homework is assigned frequently throughout the semester. The students will be given reading assignments on a regular basis along with specific writing assignments presented in the class. Students are responsible for turning in work ON TIME. Late work will not be accepted.  Homework is due at the beginning of the period in the homework tray unless otherwise noted. Please see policies regarding late work and absenteeism.

Journals:                              Beginning September 9, All students are required to have a bound notebook/journal for class. The students will be writing in the journal daily responding to different topics, answering specific questions, and more importantly, developing their writing skills. The entries will be at the beginning of class following the standards of writing the class teaches. Journal entries cannot be made up. With the entries at the beginning of class, it is vital that students arrive to class on time and be prepared for the day.

Grading:                                All grades will be determined on a point basis. The point system follows the traditional grading scale. Understand that specific assignment will be worth more than others, and the grades will be factored accordingly. Students are responsible for their grades. I recommended that students keep all of their returned work for their records. Updated grades will be available weekly on the Internet. As soon as they are available, the students will be given an access code to for my class on the school website (www.dhhs.net). This is the time for students to check on their progress in the class and make sure my records are correct. Attach corrections to a printout of the students grade page and turn it into the absent work box and I will make the correction. Progress reports and final grades will be based on the following scale:

 A= 90-100%

B= 80-90%

C= 70-80%

D= 60-70%

The total number of possible points will be divided into the student’s total accrued points to arrive at the percentage grade.

Class Expectations:             Every student is encouraged and expected to work to the very best of their ability in my classroom. I have extremely high expectations of my students, and it is my belief that each student will be successful. In order to allow for each student to have the learning environment they desire, and to take full advantage of what the course has to offer, all students must adhere to the following classroom expectations:

1.       Respect your classmates and their ideas.

2.        Be in the classroom ready to work on the day’s task when the bell rings, and be prepared for class each and every day.

3.        Do not talk or get up when the teacher is talking.

4.        Ask permission before leaving the room.

5.        Stay in your seat until the bell rings.

6.        If you are absent it is up to you to take the initiative to complete the necessary make-up work.

7.       Have an open mind!

8.        Do Not Cheat!

9.        Always do your best work!

10.    Have Fun!

Tardy Policy:                        The school-wide tardy policy will be strictly enforced in this classroom. It is the student’s responsibility to be at class on time, even if his/her class is outside the main building.

Absence Policy:                   Check the assignment sheet the day you return to school, not necessarily the next class meeting. The completed work is due at the beginning of the following class period. It is in the best interest of the student to find out what was missed to keep up with the class.

No late work will be accepted for projects and papers. These assignments are given with plenty of notice. If you are sick, and cannot get the paper t me during the given class period, make arrangements to have someone drop the project/paper off in my box. Be sure to get it time-stamped.
