 Ryan Crane - Girls' Head Coach & Hurdles (949-489-3447)

Ryan competed on the DHHS track team for four years.  He held the 400 meter record of 48.42 for 12 years until it was broken in 2006 byCade Lindahl, an athlete that Coach Crane was fortunate enough to have coached. Cade Lindahl's new school record is also an Orange County Meet Record, 47.80.

Coach Crane ran for Saddleback College, but was forced out of competition due to injuries.  Today, he uses his knowledge and experience to help others find success, both on the track and off.

Coach Crane has coached track at DHHS for eight years and girls frosh/soph cross country for seven.

Coach Crane was the boys' head coach at DHHS form 2005-2006 and has been the girls' head coach since 2007.  Coach Crane has been a vital part of the success at DHHS from his years as an athlete to today, as the girls' head coach.

Craig Dunn - Boys' Head & Pole Vault Coach  (949-489-3447)

Coach Dunn is an Alumni of DHHS, and he ran for Coach Butler in the early 1990's.
Coach Dunn teaches physical education at Dana, and in the summer Coach Dunn operates his summer camp, Hobbledehoy, with Coach Crane.  In his spare time, you can find Coach Dunn on the track helping kids in every other track & field event.

Coach Dunn is starting his ninth season coaching Track and Field at DHHS. This will be his 2nd year as the Boys' Head Coach. He has coached athletes to DHHS school records in the Boys Varsity, F/S, and Girls Varsity Pole Vault. In the Fall, Coach Dunn helps coach the Boys Cross Country Team.

Tim Butler - Boys Distance (949-246-7170)

Coach Butler is on his 34th year as a Cross Country and Track Coach at DHHS. He was also the Boys Head Soccer Coach in 1976, 1977, & 1988. Coach Butler is a very established and successful coach, having coached multiple athletes that have had success at the State and National level. He has had 27 consecutive post season appearances coached 16 League Titles, 2 CIF Titles, and 1 State Title in Cross Country, as well as 1 Soccer League Championship.

Coach Butler is a graduate of Biola University and received his Masters from the University of Laverne. He is extremely well supported on the home front by his amazing wife of 34 years, Mimi. He also has 3 children, Stephen - 30, Sarah - 28, and Don Pedro (Peter) - 27.

Rex Hall - Girls Distance (949-291-1963)

Rex Hall is a retired captain from the Anaheim Fire Department.

Rex started coaching at Damian High School in the 1970's.  He coached cross country and track at Newport Harbor High School for five years before coming to DHHS. 

Rex also competed with the Anaheim Fire Department for 15 years.

Les Owens - Girls Sprint Coach (714-343-8773)
Les is retired after 32 years teaching. His most recent assignment was as a Dana Hills Math teacher.
 
Les has been coaching Track at Dana for 5 years. He is also an assistant Football Coach.
 
As an experienced Track Coach, Les has won 2 Orange County Championships, several League Championships and has had athletes participate in the State Finals.

Vern McGarry - High Jump (949-498-1465)

Vern is a retired San Clemente police officer.  He has competed in the California Police Olympics since 1975 and Masters Track & Field since 1996.  Winner of more than 50 medals in track and field.  His favorite hobby is skydiving.


Since 1975, Vern has coached various athletes in the California Police Olympics.  He coaches Masters athletes in javelin, high jump, hammer, and discus.  Vern has coached the high jump at DHHS since 2002.

Julie Dunn - Pole Vault (949-489-3447)

Julie competed in track & field at Grossmont High School in San Diego and at San Diego State University. She has a personal best of 12'0" in the pole vault. Julie married Coach Dunn in 2006.

Julie is a certified high school English teacher and currently substitute teaches at Dana. She is in her fifth season of track and field and has also helped coach the cross country team.

Paul Martin - Throws & Sprints (949-374-3260)

Paul is the resident O.C. Sheriff at DHHS.  Paul has extensive experience in track & field and has competed as a decathlete for Sacramento State.

Paul has coached at Sequoia Jr. High School, Enterprise High School, and Shasta College. This will be Coach Martins second season coaching at Dana.

Paul brings years of competition and coaching experience in every track & field event to DHHS.

Shane Torrea - Shot & Discus (949-533-4118)

Shane was a thrower at DHHS for three years.  His personal best in the shot is 50'10.5", and 160'10" in the discus.  In 2006 he was 5th in O.C., 2nd in league for shot and 3rd in league for shot.

Shane is currently throwing for Saddleback Valley College. This will be Shanes second season coaching at Dana.

Andy Corman - Boys Distance (714-334-9123)

Coach Corman is a graduate of Alfred University. He has coached at Dana for two years, helping out the Track and Cross Country teams. Coach Corman has previously coached cross country and track at Alfred University for 3 years.

His is a multifaceted coach having knowledge in all aspects of track and field as well as strength and conditioning.

Coach Corman recently moved to California from New York in order to train for the Olympic Trials in the Marathon.
