State of California recognized Dana Hills High School
as one of the most remarkable high schools in California in the 1990s
then a second time in 2005.
In 2005 of the nearly 2,300 middle and high schools in the state, fewer than 465 were eligible to apply for the honor based on their Academic Performance Index and Adequate Yearly Progress results. The 288 schools that filed applications this year underwent a rigorous selection process conducted by the California Department of Education (CDE) in partnership with the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association, and with the help of many local educators from across the state.  However, only 118 high schools were recognized as Distinguished high school and Dana was selected as one, which ranks Dana in the top 5% of the best high schools of California.

Dana Hill High School was selected for being an outstanding example of successful teaching and learning.  And Dana was chosen for presenting high standards for all students.   It was noted by the selection committee that Dana fosters strong family and community involvement, encourages partnerships with the business community, creates a safe and clean school environment, and uses modern technology.

This national award is given to just several high schools per state each year, and the teachers, students, parents, and staff at DHHS have all worked very hard to receive this
national recognition.
