ASVAB Career Exploration Program

Career Exploration Opportunity.

The Career Center offers a Career Exploration test called the ASVAB or the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test.  The ASVAB is offered at DHHS once a year in February to junior and senior students and is free of charge.  The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is designed to help you learn more about yourself and the world of work, identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations, and develop an effective strategy to realiize your goals.

The ASVAB test covers eight areas to include science, word knowledge, mathematics, and mechanical comprehension.  It assesses a student's ability to learn new skills and is a predictor of success in training and education programs.  The interest inventory part of the exam is based on John Holland's widely accepted theory of career choices.

Visit the Career Center room 501 to get additional information or log on to www.asvabprogram.com

ROP/Career Center

Welcome to Dana Hills High School ROP/Career Center. The Regional Occupational Program or (ROP) offers students a great experience and an internship opportunity in a particular field. Students earn elective credits for high school.

Mrs. Speirs is located in room 501 and is here to assist students in finding an ROP class.  If you are interested in enrolling in an ROP class and are 16 years of age or older please see Mrs. Speirs.

Earn College Credit by taking articulated ROP course in high school.  An articulation agreement is a formal agreement between a high school/ROP and a community college.  It allows high school students to earn community college credit for taking ROP/CTE (career technical education) courses in high school.  Students who take ROP/CTE courses in their high school may receive advanced placement and/or advanced credit by examination at the community college.  Examples of ROP/CTE courses that articulate with Saddleback, Santa Ana and Coastline Community Colleges: Automotive Repair, Careers in Fashion, Child Care Occupations, Computer Graphics, Digital Media 1B/Digital Video Production, Firefighting - Basic skills and Technology, Floral Design, It Essentials I, Medical Terminology and Small Business Management.

Registration for second semester  will begin November  2011 and continue until the classes are full/closed.  Students need to complete a registration form with Mrs. Speirs  Some ROP classes may have requirements that students must meet before they may enroll in the ROP class.  To get additional information log on to the Capistrano Laguna Beach ROP website at www.capolagrop.org  or go to the Career Center.

ROP is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Dana Hills High School Senior Job Shadow Program

The annual  Senior Job Shadow/Career Day will be held on November 16, 2011 from 6:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students have an opportunity to get a sneak-peek of a particular occupation for the day. Occupations available for students to job shadow range from Attorney, City Management (at least 8 different departments) School teacher; Fire Department and Law Enforcement just to name a few. The event is sponsored by the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary club and coordinated by Capistrano-Laguna Beach ROP.  Students are transported to the Ritz Carlton Hotel for breakfast. After breakfast they will listen to  motivational speaker, Federal Judge Cormac J. Carney . Students are then paired off with their mentor for the day where they will be able to ask questions and see first hand what the occupation requires. Lunch will be included at the end of the event at "On the Border" in Aliso Niquel. After lunch students will return to campus.

Please have students come to the Career Center in room 501 to pick up the list of occupations and permission forms required for the event.
